Uneven and sloping floors are the visible end of a support problem underneath the home. Leveling raises settled sections back toward their original elevation and holds them there.
Independent providers can take elevation readings across the floor to map how much a section has dropped and in which direction. Those readings, together with what the crawl space, basement, or slab shows, determine whether lifting is appropriate and how much recovery is realistic.
Pier systems can lift and hold settled perimeter sections. Interior slabs and garage floors may be raised with polyurethane foam injection. In crawl spaces, adjustable steel supports and new footings can take over from failing posts or wood piers.
Lifting is done in controlled stages to limit new cracking, and some finish repairs are normal afterward. Your provider should tell you up front where full recovery is likely and where stabilization is the better goal.

Recovery depends on how long the settlement has been in place and how the structure has adjusted. Significant improvement is common; a return to exact original elevation is not always achievable.
